Alps Blue Velvet
I picked up an Alps blue potentiometer this week. I had read that they track better at very low volumes when compared to the stock pot.
Heh. Makes me want soup.
So, I’ll install it this week, and update this post with my findings.
Ok, I’ve installed pot, and I’m experiencing a much more audible improvement – not only in low volume tracking, but things are sounding better.
Also, I have much more play between silence and my max comfortable listening levels. With the stock pot I was at 7:00 if 6:00 is 0. Right now, I’m listening to the Alps Blue at 9:00 and it sounds fantastic.
So, maybe it’s sounding better because I can push the volume more? That seems unlikely, but I’ll do some checking.
Received some feedback on the Bottlehead forums, and it appears each pot will vary some in performance. Bottom line: an $18 part has improved sound quality by giving me better tracking and more play in the prime listening levels.
