Audioquest Nighthawk Part2 – It’s Secret Hot
Audioquest recommends 150 hours of play to allow the Nighthawk to settle in. Mine were purchased used, so I can’t provide a number – though I suspect I am close. I can say they have opened up in the week I’ve been listening to them. And, tonight they have started to vanish…
Now playing: ‘Over Now’ by Autre Ne Veut
A fat kick drum stomps a dirge on a floor of enormous bass notes repeating a simple progression. A breathy vocal enters and sits at what will be the eye of the storm. The airy harmonies, shimmering strings, handclaps and piano that follow, all float above this complex bed of low frequencies. This layered mass of low freqs keeps its shape throughout, and the synth string textures are touchable. The static and intermittent glitches never glare at you, even when the tune explodes into a storm of noise. The stage is deep and spatial cues are rock solid.
The Nighthawk deliver this modern R&B deconstruction – or, destruction – while maintaining composure, control, and superb texture, tone and touch.
The Nighthawk is secret hot. It may dress a bit differently – and, it isn’t caught up in the latest trend – but it is smart, sexy, supremely talented, and fits like a glove. Like all worthy pursuits, you must give it time.
