Big Lazy – Live at the Rebel Lounge
Went to see some friends play last night at the Rebel Lounge. They were great, as always. There are few things better than hanging with friends watching live music. That said, I wasn’t sure we’d stay long. School night, and all.
Thankfully, we did hang in, as the sparsely populated room was treated to an interesting night of music, starting with Jon Rauhouse and Robin Vining. Following their great set was The Surfside IV who delivered a wild set of instrumental surf sounds. Very fun.
Finally, Big Lazy took the stage. I’d not heard the NYC trio before, and man am I glad we hung around to see them. Led by guitarist Stephen Ulrich, the band conjures vivid imagery – reminding me of fellow guitarist Bill Frisell’s ability to make music that sounds so much like a soundtrack to a lost film. Overall, a satisfying blend of technical prowess dedicated to song craft.
