Bill Frisell: Music for The Films of Buster Keaton – The High Sign/One Week
In the early 90’s, Bill Frisell composed music for the Buster Keaton films The High Sign, One Week and Go West. His trio – with bassist Kermit Driscoll and Joey Baron on drums – performed the music at St. Ann’s in Brooklyn, NY in 1993. In 1995, they released two discs including the one featured here.
The music is representative of his early 90’s work – somewhere between the wildly eclectic and fractured structures of John Zorn’s Naked City and his later, more melodic and folk inspired releases. I dig this period the most (1988-1995), I think, though it’s difficult to choose.
Would have loved to see this performed live in front of the big screen.
