http://anticables.com/ I picked up a .5 meter 3.1 Reference Series USB cable this week. Plugged it in, and, will run it in for some time before I do any critical listening. We’ll hear what’s next…
I finished the Quickie build last weekend. Only took a couple hours. I haven’t finished the base yet. Not sure what direction to go, as the chassis plate is yellow. Not my first (or third) choice, but this is part of the fun with this kit.
Thank you to Airist Audio for adding my stop to the current tour. Airist Audio (http://www.airistaudio.com/) is a young company now jumping into the personal audio market with their first piece of gear – the Heron 5 (US$1999) headphone amplifier. The Heron 5 is a solid state amp aimed directly at the higher end. […]
The interstage caps have arrived. Cool. Parafeed caps are coming soon – hoping next week. Will install tonight and see what’s what. I’ve got about 4 hours on them now, and they sound really nice. Mids are more present and there’s a dimensionality to these caps. Stage is deeper. Very natural highs. We’ll see what […]
Stumbled onto a Bottlehead thread that revealed the possibility of running 6SN7’s in the S.E.X. amp. Fun. Of course, the circuit is not designed for these tubes, and though they are within spec, there’s little documented feedback available. The assumption is that the 6SN7’s will have a shortened lifespan. Some users posted that they enjoyed these tubes in […]
UPS dropped off one of Audioquests’ usb bugs yesterday, and today, I am listening for the first time. I currently use a multipurpose machine for audio – no dedicated music server here – so am interested in simple, inexpensive solutions pointed at improving computer audio quality. On the software side, I use Fidelizer Pro, Tidal and Roon […]
Noise There is a lot of chatter, as always with new gear (or old for that matter), on the audio forums regarding the performance of the Nighthawk. The opinions of its qualities are as numerous as those posting them, and the testing may involve many different combinations of upstream components. Extended listening is the only way to answer […]
Audioquest recommends 150 hours of play to allow the Nighthawk to settle in. Mine were purchased used, so I can’t provide a number – though I suspect I am close. I can say they have opened up in the week I’ve been listening to them. And, tonight they have started to vanish…
I purchased these used, from an excellent Head-fi seller. Good bunch of folks there. Thanks James. Based on my experience with headphones, and the reading currently available on the Nighthawk, I was confident this would be a great pairing for me. And, since they came with approximately 100 hours of play, I’ll not need but another week of […]
Look forward to getting my pair of Audioquest Nighthawks later this week. Based on what I’ve read, this should be a good pairing with my Bottlehead/Schiit Audio system. I plan to do a detailed review and comparison against my AKG Q701.
