Kirk Knuffke: Arms&Hands
Improvised music is alive and well in the 21st century.
Kirk Knuffke is a cornetist and composer who performs a broad range of music. He was the winner of Downbeat Magazine’s “Rising Star”critics poll for 2015.
We could call it jazz, or simply improvised music.
Either way – this record is a fast favorite. Primarily a trio session, with two legends on-board: Bill Goodwin on drumset and Mark Helias on bass – there are a couple other guests who join in on about half the tracks. The tunes range from more straightforward swinging to something more out and open. My favorites often do a bit of both.
