Look forward to getting my pair of Audioquest Nighthawks later this week. Based on what I’ve read, this should be a good pairing with my Bottlehead/Schiit Audio system. I plan to do a detailed review and comparison against my AKG Q701.

It’s the one, the downbeat. The one we always return to. We may play across it, and, briefly experience the freedom of stepping out, but ultimately it’s the one that has the last word.
Stian Westerhus was a new discovery for me in 2014. A master solo improviser, Westerhus exists on the fringe of music’s mainstream culture. Known for his solo live performances, and ambient landscapes driven by incredible guitar, effects and production chops, he’s done something different with this release. With Maelstrom he created what you might call a […]
Mark Linkous is among my favorite artists. Writer of strange and beautiful songs, he often created experimental sounding bits, though melody was always a focus. His choice of instrumentation grounded these odd tunes, and makes them familiar. And, though his voice isn’t technically strong, and he himself often masked it with effects (and had guest vocalists), […]
Low released a new record on September 11. The early 90’s ‘slowcore’ trailblazers have consistently output great music for 20+ years. This record is full of great songs, their trademark vocals/harmonies and is a textured and dynamic production. Industrial tinged electronics have been worked into their sound, and damn if it isn’t a welcome addition. In […]
Schiit Audio is a company I have admired for some time. Their stance in the audio arena is remarkable, and, they’ve got the chops to back it up. They make intriguing products that are highly regarded by a dedicated customer base, and receive reviews to match. They like to do things their way and, apparently, do […]
I picked up an Alps blue potentiometer this week. I had read that they track better at very low volumes when compared to the stock pot. Heh. Makes me want soup. So, I’ll install it this week, and update this post with my findings. 09/17: Ok, I’ve installed pot, and I’m experiencing a much more […]
You Insensitive Fuck. Or, ‘Where’s your tambourine?!?!!’ The former, a great tune by Catherine Wheel and the now solo Rob Dickinson. The latter we will get to in a moment.
Ok, I originally planned to log the build, and got excited about how the amp sounds, so that post came first. Now, on to the build – my first – and though it’s not necessarily pretty, it sounds excellent. This was really fun, and it’s inspired me to build more. I am already looking forward […]
For me, music has always been there. It is very much a part of who I am. I spent countless hours listening to records as a teen. Later, I spent years playing music in all sorts of bands. Audio gear(for playback) became an interest when I was a teen, though after an initial purchase (Harmon Kardon integrated […]
