Stian Westerhus is a formidable improviser/guitarist with a reputation for intense live performance. On, Maelstrom he focuses those skills on more song oriented material. And, he sings. Very well, I might add. If I must attempt to describe the tunes, they are post-rock ballads of a sort. I feel this is a weak attempt to […]
I tend to lean hard into the idea that it should be all about the music, our hobby. I do try to hold myself to it. So, a component that sounds great can look less so. It helps that I appreciate the more utilitarian designs many builders choose today. I do appreciate great style and form, […]
I have a new Double Helix cables Molecule SE for my Nighthawks. Peter Bradstock makes these cables by hand – I hope with some extra hands for support – as, it seems business is good. No wonder, because this is an excellent product. The build and design appeal to me. I like the look of […]
After I’ve let the KT88-ST’s settle down, I’ll be trying this out in the Mogwai’s input. If it’s anything like the KT88’s, this will be fun.

Cables are big business in audio, of course, and after-market or custom cables are ever present in the personal audio world. Based on my reading, a large number of high end headphone listeners eventually […]
Nolatet’s Dogs was released in February last year. A four piece band comprised of piano, vibes, bass and drums, all driven by seasoned veterans of improvised music who’ve collaborated in different settings for many years. The recording is fantastic – live, open and dynamic. If you’re a fan of improvised music, I recommend this record.
Sunday night at Comerica Theater in Phoenix, Brittany Howard and band brought it. It – as in they put almost every rock show I’ve seen in the past 5 years to shame. Howard is well-known for her powerful presence and incredible voice, so I’ll not say much beyond she hurt my feelings. Everything came together here […]
