It’s been 5 days since I swapped in the Duelund Tinned Copper hookup wire. The Bottlehead Single-ended Experimenters amp has benefited from this adventure. We both have. I’ve been running the amp hard, and estimate we’ve got nearly 40 hours on it since the upgrade. Impressions The wire brought a remarkable improvement to sound quality, just […]
I had some success updating the internal wiring of my Tekton Lore with the Duelund 16GA tinned copper wire. Definitely gained more texture and tone with that simple upgrade. So what’s next? I grabbed some of the extra wire and replaced the copper wire in my Bottlehead amp with the Duelund. I focused on wire […]
I have a new Double Helix cables Molecule SE for my Nighthawks. Peter Bradstock makes these cables by hand – I hope with some extra hands for support – as, it seems business is good. No wonder, because this is an excellent product. The build and design appeal to me. I like the look of […]
And it makes me groove more than any other bit of gear before it. We’ve been together three weeks now, and I think it’s enough, at least, to share some thoughts. And, as much as I do appreciate a detailed technical exercise, I’ll be staying where I’m most comfortable, and leaving the engineering debate to […]
A new stepped attenuator is in-house. I expect this to be the final mod for my Bottlehead Single-Ended Experimenters amp. I got the part for $50 on Ebay, pre-assembled. I just couldn’t get excited about soldering so many resistors (Dale-Vishay). This is a 23 step attenuator (100k), and it’s replacing an Alps blue (100k) pot. Mounting […]
I finished the Quickie build last weekend. Only took a couple hours. I haven’t finished the base yet. Not sure what direction to go, as the chassis plate is yellow. Not my first (or third) choice, but this is part of the fun with this kit.
The interstage caps have arrived. Cool. Parafeed caps are coming soon – hoping next week. Will install tonight and see what’s what. I’ve got about 4 hours on them now, and they sound really nice. Mids are more present and there’s a dimensionality to these caps. Stage is deeper. Very natural highs. We’ll see what […]
Stumbled onto a Bottlehead thread that revealed the possibility of running 6SN7’s in the S.E.X. amp. Fun. Of course, the circuit is not designed for these tubes, and though they are within spec, there’s little documented feedback available. The assumption is that the 6SN7’s will have a shortened lifespan. Some users posted that they enjoyed these tubes in […]
