The Vintage Project: Klipsch Forte I – Listening
To see more of the Vintage Project, look here.
Crites crossovers arrived at our door today. Good times.
This afternoon, I installed them. It took me 30 minutes, I think. I wasn’t keeping track of time, but it went quickly. A couple minor issues with the velcro mounts releasing from the inner wall of the cabinets. I had to go back and reinforce…a couple times. I think we’re good now.
I ran them all evening at low levels, stopping in to sit for a song or two. Later, I sat for a longer session.
I now get it.
I understand now why they are dedicated for life. Those horn people…(whom I’ll soon be joining) These things sound incredible. Big, wide open and live. Which is exactly what I’m looking for. Dynamic, and highly sensitive. Though they are both rated at 98db, the Forte make my Lore sound a bit dull.
Great tone. I know they may open up a bit more over the next couple weeks, so that density of tone may shift upward some. That’s cool. The midrange is spacious, and at times familiar songs sounded strange. Different. It could be that the Forte are still settling down, or it could be me.
I’m even more excited to upgrade caps down the road – I’m certain the Forte will respond well to better components.
This first vintage adventure was very cool. I look forward to listening to the Forte…while I hunt for the next project. I’ll come back with more listening impressions soon.
Thanks for listening.
